Breezeway

Breezeway began as a five-day personal project after realizing how harmful polluted air can be when exercising outdoors. While spending several weeks in Bangkok, something as simple as going for a run required precautions I never had to consider back home.

Planning a safe route meant bouncing between apps like Strava, Google Maps, IQAir and Headspace, yet none offered the precision I needed. Air quality can swing by +80% in <2km, leaving the experience fragmented and unreliable. Analyzing reviews with ChatGPT revealed the same patterns: too much complexity, too little trust and a strong demand for real-time feedback. Research confirmed that living in the most polluted cities reduces survival by 26% and more than 90% of the global population breathes air above safe limits.

The result was Breezeway: a real-time route generator that ensures every step, run, or ride happens in the cleanest possible air. Based on two simple inputs, time or distance, the app MVP produces an optimized route starting from the user’s location, sending alerts when conditions change or health may be at risk. The visual design draws subtle inspiration from Dieter Rams’ iconic fans.

Beyond functionality, the solution carries a metaphor: you know your goal but not the path. Breezeway reframes urban mobility as a search for cleaner air, encouraging people to move through the city with safety, freedom and confidence.

Breezeway began as a five-day personal project after realizing how harmful polluted air can be when exercising outdoors. While spending several weeks in Bangkok, something as simple as going for a run required precautions I never had to consider back home. The idea came directly from that pain point.

Insights that directly shaped the user definition, product flow and design direction.
